김시은 작가는 ‘딸기소녀’라는 작품 시리즈에서 과거 내성적인 성격으로 사람들 앞에서 말하는 것조차 힘들었던 작가 본인의 모습을 표현했다.

부끄러움이 많았던 딸기 소녀는 결혼을 하고 아이가 생기면서 다른 시각으로 사회를 바라볼 수 있게 됐다. 다른 시각으로 세상을 바라보면서 불현듯 밀려오는 불편한 감정들을 그림으로 표현했다.

아이들이 가지고 놀다가 흥미를 잃은 장난감들은 딸기와 어우러져 하나의 새로운 장면을 만들어 낸다. 이렇게 그려진 장면은 보는 사람을 웃음 짓게 만들지만, 웃음 뒤에 또 다른 모습을 발견하게 된다면 그 모습을 발견한 사람 또한 덤덤하게 사회와 부딪히며 살아가는 또 다른 딸기소녀일 것이다.

“Strawberry Girl is an expression of myself, who was introverted in the past and had a hard time even talking in front of people. The shy strawberry girl looks at society from a different perspective as she gets married and has children. My works are an expression of these unsettling feelings that had suddenly emerged. Toys that children lose interest in while playing are combined with strawberries to create a story, and are then drawn into varying scenarios. Images of this nature might make the viewer laugh, but if they find a different story behind the humorous aspects, they will also become yet another figure who calmly clashes with society, just like the bashful strawberry girl.” - Kim Si Eun
